Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)  

The British Embassy, Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Driver, Grade – S1.



Main Purpose of the job:


Transport embassy employees and visitors to and from various locations throughout the country, while adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures.



Main Responsibilities:


Carry out regular maintenance checks for all vehicle fleet, alert transport manager/deputy in case of technical problem or need for maintenance.

Ensure proper fuelling and washing of vehicles and all necessary tools are present in vehicles and in good condition.

Assist the Protocol officer in processing the official documents with the Local Authorities.

Ad hoc help to the wider Corporate Services Team as required, including back up for Diplomatic Bag delivery and dispatch.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience  

Essential:


Fluent communication skills in English and Arabic.

Ought to be a skilled driver and must have the necessary authorization to drive.

Must be a safety conscious person, who is focused, confident and observant.

Good knowledge of IT skills.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  

Desirable:


Public driving license, previous experience in security or close protection roles.

Working Hours and Remuneration:


The position is full-time, at 48 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.


Daily Daytime: Driver will start at 08:00 and leave the Embassy at 15:30. Driver will also be on call for out of hours duties on an ad hoc basis.


Pay is on the Embassy S1 scale, with a salary of JOD 711 per month plus out of hours duty bonus of JOD 120. Please note that your salary will be paid gross and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities.  If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax.  Further information on this will be given to candidates at interview if necessary.


This position is offered on a full time, permanent contract basis.


The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-days probationary period (as appropriate). The selected candidate will have the right to live and work in Jordan.


The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 25 days (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.

Receive the appropriate level of standard security clearance;
